Country Dreamer HOME
  The Country Dreamer
Hand Built Reproduction Furniture, Country Accessories & Antiques

As our passion for primitives grew, so did our business. It became evident that we wanted to sell what we truly loved and would put in our own home. We have seen many changes since we started & Country is not just the look that we saw in the 80’s & early 90’s. Items from the 50’s & 60’s and even 70's are considered  "Vintage" now and that retro look is also very popular. What we used to collect & decorate with has changed, along with our customer base. We now have so many popular styles of Country to choose from, Modern Country, Shabby Chic, Cottage, Country French , and Eclectic just to name a few. Mixing primitive pieces with Contemporary is also not unheard of. The paint color or finishing technique of a piece can determine what style it will  blend well with. The use of floral fabrics & colors of all white or cream have graced the pages of magazines & decorating books for some time now.
While these looks are certainly beautiful and Bob has created so many wonderful pieces that fit all these styles, we still wanted to continue dealing with Primitive and Early American. And how & what we decorate with when trying to achieve a Primitive or Early American look has not changed. We love the true historic colors & quality reproductions & folk art that give our home character and personality. All the Handmades & Smalls add that special touch. And to those of us who are true collectors will always find a spot for something new. We know the excitement of a new find and that magical feeling of adding yet one more treasure to a collection.
So having this website will not only allow us to work with customers who love all styles, but to cater to those who have a passion for primitive’s. I can get excited from talking about a scent of a simple candle to discussing a wonderful piece of furniture. I am thrilled when a customer says “we just bought a summer house, can you help me decorate it” or “we just built an extension, what would you do”  or ”I have a blank wall that needs something, what do you suggest”. One time a customer asked Bob to build a wonderful Stepback Cupboard and then asked if I would bring over a bunch of accessories to fill it. It is flattering to have someone walk into my home and hear them say “it feels as if I just stepped back in time,  I would love this, can I get this same look”?   I love filling other people’s homes with things I love and sometimes really no longer have room for. There are times, no matter what I move around, a new piece of furniture just won’t fit, but if I can’t have it, then someone else who will appreciate it should. It is truly rewarding knowing a customer is happy with what they've purchased or what we've done.
When it comes to a piece of custom furniture, Bob will  design a piece to suite your needs or do his best to recreate a piece that you  may have seen and would love to own. When you can’t find the right size piece that you are looking for or you see a true antique or something in a magazine, book or in someone’s home that is not for sale, as one customer puts it, Bob will do his “MAGIC”.
And each piece will be uniquely created – no two ever alike, each with its own distinct changes and character.
If you need ideas, we will be happy to show you what can be available.  You may also see pieces for sale from other craftsman from time to time and rest assured, they will be truly as wonderful.
Besides Furniture, we extend our line to feature all types of accessories for the home and pride ourselves to offer you some of the best quality reproductions, lighting, folk art, candles & seasonal items from some of the best known artisans and craftsman. You will see a small sampling on this website but know that anything & everything is yours for the asking.  If there is something special you are looking for, just ask. We will be happy to advise you and research it for you if necessary.

HAPPY DECORATING!
We look forward to hearing from you.

Shabby chic items are often heavily painted with many layers showing through obviously worn areas. The style is imitated in Faux Painting using glaze or by painting then rubbing and sanding away the top coat to show the wood or base coats. Fabrics tend to be cottons and linens, with linen being particularly popular, inspired by old French linens. Whites and worn or bleached out pastels are favorite colours. Fabric is often stained with tea to give it the look of old fabric. Bleached and faded are terms often applied to the style. *
