Country Dreamer HOME
  The Country Dreamer
Hand Built Reproduction Furniture, Country Accessories & Antiques

I can still remember the first time I ever walked into a country home. It was sweet, cute, warm and welcoming. Little did I know, that night would change my life forever and it would actually be the start of “The Country Dreamer”
I was once again, changing things in my house. No matter what I did, I was never satisfied or happy with the results. And then, I found Country. As I shopped, searched, and redecorated, I started to collect antiques. My husband Bob & I have always been creative, always needed to do something artistic, so it was just natural that we would get more and more involved. So we started our little business making crafts and became part of a group antique shop.
Shortly after, I asked Bob, “Can you make me a pie safe?” And the rest is history. What started as cute and cozy, quickly turned primitive and 1800’s. I liked the New England look too & loved folk art and wonderful reproductions. I continued to redecorate & collect while listening to comments from friends & relatives “The colors are too dark, you may not like it after a while”, “things look too old, how can you live like this”, “what’ are all these things hanging from the beams, it’s too cluttered”. My dolls and angels were called “moth people”, my aunt asked me if I was still making little creatures and my uncle was relieved to learn that the primitive kitchen table which was an 1800’s old painted piece was supposed to look the way it did and “no, we were not living with old hand me downs because we couldn’t afford new”.
No one I knew decorated like this and I was, I must admit, a little nervous that it was so different from what everyone else had. But Bob said “go with what you like – forget about what everyone else says, and you’ll be happy if you get what you want. You won’t tire of it” And I could hear my mother’s voice instilling in me since I was a little girl, to always be different – so began my passion. I haven’t regretted it for one moment and eleven years later, I haven’t changed my style of decorating. No doubt, I never will.

Folk art is predominantly functional or utilitarian visual art created by hand (or with limited mechanical facilities) for use by the maker or a small circum-scribed group and contain-ing an element of retention —the prolonged survival of tradition. Folk art is the creative expression of the human struggle toward civilization. *
